The dreaded Monday eve
Day 8
Work week eve - yeih!
Why do we dread Sunday nights so much? I think you already know the answer but in my case, and funny enough, having a really good TV show, actually made me look forward to a Sunday night at 9PM. There are many good examples, but HBO shows tend to take the lead on this.
During the times of Game of Thrones and more recently House of the Dragons or The White Lotus, looking forward to something good and entertaining made my Sunday nights very exciting instead of dreading the fact that I have to work on Monday, is just too bad that tonight there's no new show on HBO. We have to wait until 2024 for season 2 of HotD and season 3 of TWL, even though it was renewed, we still don't have a clear release date.
Thankfully, a new show is coming up on January 15th, 2023, on HBO, and I am extremely excited about it. The show is a TV adaptation of The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic action-adventure game with survival/horror element. The excitement comes mainly from the fact that the video game itself is one of the most impressive and best games ever made.
Originally coming out on PS3 back in 2013 and remastered for PS4 in 2014 with a full-fledged (even though unnecessary) remake for PS5 in 2022, the game tells the story of Joel, a smuggler, and Ellie (the "smugglee") as they travel across the US to help finding a cure/vaccine for a disease that has pretty much destroyed the world.
Yeah, yeah, another tired formula by today's standards and considering this never-ending covid pandemic, there seems to be nothing new to tell, but, as a big contrast to many other action-adventure games, and post-apocalyptic stories, this one has a big focus on the relationship between the protagonists, whom are mostly together the whole time and well, through their eyes you will learn a lot about sadness, happiness, grief, fatherhood, love, hatred, malice, and a whole lot of other emotions.
Honestly, the TV has all the material they need to be a great adaptation, obviously there are things in a video game that are impossible to adapt because they depend a lot on interactions, but with if the producers of the show are passionate about the IP, they will find a way to properly translate that into a TV show.
Anyways, very excited about it.
