Hey, k lo k pueblo

Day 41

Tonight, I'll be "short" - below the first email I wrote to my friends after I moved to Miami.

Date: January 12 2008 and at this point I've been living in Miami for 10 days already.  Below the email in its original form:

Diablo cono, tanta vainas k contarles, tanta vainas k he visto y he hecho,, y CUANTO trabajo he pasado, pero na .. parte del entretenimeinto.

Translation considering the many Dominican slangs in the email:

My brothers. What's up?  .. how is everything going?

Hell, damn it, so many things to tell you about, so many things that I've seen and done, and how much work I've been through, but well... part of the entertainment. The university is crazy cool, that has no comparison with anything. All the buildings are huge, ranging from apartment towers to museums, gymnasiums, research areas, greenhouses, soccer stadiums, etc etc etc...

The housing situation,,, shit, how much work we have put into it... read, it was the day before yesterday that we moved after seeing a lot of places and going around Miami. Where we moved is amazing... it's a third floor in Doral, a well-appointed residential area, calm, with a pool, tennis and racquetball courts, a gym, and a bloody patio lake... the 3BR apartment, quite big, practically 100% carpeted, and very large... my friends and family, not to mention Caquito's parents, have been too good to us. They have given us the furniture in the living room (sofa bed included), a TV, a microwave, a mattress, a TV table, a lamp, among other things.

Another thing is that we have bought a car, after a lot of arguing and exceeding the budget, we got into a 2000 Nissan Sentra, American version, with which we are going to solve a large part of the problem of moving around in Miami. Up to now I have classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6 to 9. Imagine how much lazy time I have.

Unfortunately, I have not gone out at all because I have not had time since at the end of the day, we ended up quite exhausted by the errands although since we have the house and the car, we will be a little more rested.

Hey, today I parboiled my first cassava!!!

This country is incredible, they even sell peeled cassava.

Now, that's my little recount of things... the photos are coming soon...

Take care of yourselves, you bunch of fagots.

A few observations, I can tell I was super excited at the time yet extremely tired.  The first few weeks were pretty hectic in every single sense of the word.  Some wording on the emails I'm not very proud of, but I still stand on the feeling of the email itself.  Remember, this was the 22-year-old who at the time didn't know better but I'm glad how far I've come.
