Un puré de Mapuey!

Day 34

First fail of blog - since I should have posted this hours earlier but well tiredness got the best of me and hopefully this won't happen again.

One thing I've been doing (but not over doing) is enjoy the amazing food of the Dominican Republic and at home I have the best cook ever. Bombón, as we call her - realname Hilaria which she hates, so she calls herself Marta, but everybody calls her Bombón is this very hardworking woman whom my whole family owes her a lot.

Bombón has been working for my family for roughly 30 years and literally has been the hands feeding me, or taking care of me while parents were away, making sure the house is clean and organized, etc etc etc.  Nowdays, at homeonly having my parents living in it, she is way more needed than ever, not because my parents need any special attention, thankfully they don't but more because she is our eyes at home since my parents have the tendency of not disclosuring things to the ones who live abroad (me and two of my brothers) to prevent us from worrying.

Additionally, she has a especially thick skin to deal with my parents stupid requests and nonsenses, and for that, I'm forever grateful.  She might be an employee at home, but, at the end of the day, she is definitely family and I freaking love her company and cooking skills.  And going back to that, Dominican food is one of my all time favorite foods,. I'm obviously biased but objectively looking into it, it is good and really tasty, but too bad it tends to be very high or carbs and fat (we deep fry everything) but having a cardiologist father and a health concious mother, Bombon has found a way to keep typical dominican food as healthy as possible (low salt, low fat levels).

But this particular trip has been a treat for me, breakfast has been mostly a fairly typical fair: roots + cheese or eggs, some natural juice and coffe.  Lunch has been, again, at home and fairly typical fare: rice, beans, some type of meat and salad.  Dinner has been a bit more atypical like a burger from a good burger joint or dominican finger food (pastelitos, quipes), but most importantly, very good.

Sadly, the one thing I think I'll miss this time around, is a good sancocho de habichuelas, and that's just a shame but that said, I've been able to enjoy great food with products directly from the countryside to the table.  About food, especially about dominican food, I can talk for ages and I will defenitly do it for some of my favorites, just not today.
